To pick up the shovel, I could not do it.
To bring the earth to meet the metal, I could not do it.
To stand beside you, lowered now into the earth,
All I could bare to do was hide behind a wall of love,
And cry.
Told that it would be healing, bring closure
How
Could anything heal that fresh wound
How
Could anything close my heart broken wide open
I have buried many since,
And always, I think of you
Knowing you would have held me in the softest hug,
Had you been there in that moment.
I could not bury you. Maybe now I can.
